A doctor working near the Gaza Strip has developed a new detoxification program, that has cured more than 11,000 former opiate addicts.  It's said to be one of the world's most radical drug clinic, but regarding drug addiction, radical techniques may actually be the best.  Dr. Andre Waismann hopes that one day, any opiate addict can come in and get cured of their drug addiction, and go home healthy that very evening.
Basically, what his treatment consists of is, the patient is sedated while their body is detoxified.  Usually this process is extremely painful and they experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever, even extreme muscle aches.  All of these symptoms are bypassed and the patient awakes with no cravings, having gone through detoxification.  For the next ten months to a year, they take regular pills to counteract the effects of any heroin or opiate they may take, and according to Waismann, become fully functioning members of society again.

I knew a girl who took pills to counteract her drug abuse but she wanted the drugs so bad and wanted to feel them that she stopped taking the pills just to be able to enjoy the high. I can relate to that because I once took diet pills and I would want to eat so bad but they would make me feel so full so I just didn't take them when I wanted to eat. I think they should develop a shot that a person takes once a month that way the addict cant just stop taking pills and return to their drug abuse.

Obviously it's working if it's helped more than 11,000 addicts.  This program is designed for addicts who really want to quit, but don't have to deal with the pain of detox.  Taking a shot like you said, is the same scenario as taking the pills, why couldn't they just stop getting injections?

I agree that a shot will probably be better because it keeps them away from drugs longer. Like say it lasts for a month, the addict lives with that for amonth and they start getting used to knowing they cant take the drug. But with a pill they could say "I want to get high just for today and I'll get back on the pill tomorrow". Even addicts who want the drug know that its bad for them, they could make the wise decision to just stick to a shot and then continue taking it and making 100% sure they dont go back to it. This also could help a lot of teen addicts, the parents could make them take this shot.
This program seems really good though, I think they should exploit it more.
