A close friend of mine has a room mate with Bipolar disorder. I didn't know this before, but this weekend she had a complete melt down and was screaming at everyone for over a half hour. I took the initiative to sit down and talk to her about all of the things she needs to start doing to prevent a melt down, so that she won't make people uncomfortable. Basically ever since she moved in, she's been very messy and sometimes impolite. But my main concern is that she chooses to self medicate herself with weed. I guess she's having issues with her health insurance and when she did start taking medication, it made her extremely tired. I'm wondering if smoking weed has different affects for someone with bipolar, compared to someone who does not.

Usually strong medicines that are ideal for treating bipolar disorder can take weeks to make a positive difference. She says that she was tired when first using them? That may be a side effect of the drug, but after a few weeks her body should adjust. If not, then she may need a lower dosage. But that's a good sign that she's willing to make changes, she must really like living there.

There's more than one bipolar disorder drug. I'm sure if she talks to her doctor they could figure out another solution. Maybe weed actually helps her though. Weed helps insomnia and many other issues so maybe it could help that. I'm not sure.
