I was reading an article that talked about how insomnia in adolescents can have some big effects when they get older. They increase the risk of developing mental health problems and also increase te seerity of these problems. Results indicated that adolescents who had symptoms of insomnia were 2.3 times more likely to develop depression in early adulthood. They were also much more likely to use alcohol, cannabis, and non-cannabis drugs, and was more likely to suffer from depression, suicide thoughts, and suicide attempts.
This has me kind of worried because my little sister suffers from insomnia and she always has. She’s 10 years old and barely ever sleeps. I fall asleep around 10:00 pm, but if I wake up to use the bathroom I pass by her room and her light is still on. She can never sleep early. She’s such a good and happy kid. Her grades are spectacular she doesn’t even get a B, and she wont ever do anything that’s wrong, she cries when I do. I cant ever imagine her being depressed or caught up with drugs and just thinking about it really bothers me.
