After loosing his 7 and 10-year old children by a driver who was under the influence of perscription drugs obtained from multiple doctors. Bob Pack created the Troy and Alana Pack foundation. He’s been working with Attorney General Brown and what they’re trying to do is provide doctors and pharmacies with real-time internet access to patient prescription drug histories. Health professionals would have computer access to the drug histories of patients which replaces the current outdated system that required mailing or faxing written requests for information.
Addicts go doctor shopping all the time. An example of one is Frankie Greer, 53, he visited 183 doctos and 47 pharmacies to feed a prescription drug habit that included some of the most dangerous painkillerss in lehtal combinations. Over a one year period he got prescribed over 4,830 hydrocodone tablets, 2,210 oxycodone tablets, 156 oxycontin and a variety of addictive painkillers. And there are many other abusers such as this. Even I can name a few.
This not only keeps feeding more and more addicts but also costing the state millions, and causing serious public safety consequences. I think it would be really great if they develop a system like this. It’s needed.

I'm surprised they dont already have a system like this. It's important for doctors to know if another doctor is perscribing their patient meds. What if a doctor has already prescribed them a prescription painkiller and then that doctor prescribed them something else and they take them together and it becomes fatal. Doctors need this not only for problems with addicts or insurance fraud and all that but for just the health of the patient. But it would be very good to keep addicts from getting more and more pills. Like that guy mentioned almost 4300 hydrocodone pills!!! Thats sooo much!!

It seems like a lot of doctors are concerned with their patients health and maintaining medication, except when it comes to these prescription drugs.  I'm currently studying pre-med and ethical medical practice is stressed a lot, we're already being urged to provide the best care for our patients no matter what.  Prescribing all these different kinds of drugs is doing more harm than anything.  Prescription opiates is the number one drug in the U.S. if you think about it.  Everyone has used them at one time, and now, more people are getting physically and psychologically addicted to them everyday.

I dont think doctors think much that the person they're prescribing these pills to may be getting so many other pills from various other doctors.  I think they just think they're doing their jobs but providing them with the help they need and so are the other doctors who these addicts are going to.

It's really sad that he lost his children to a driver that was under the influence of perscription drugs. I think its terrible when a person loses a loved one over someone elses selfishness. The kids and Mr. Pack were following the law and all the rules and doing nothing wrong but thanks to somebody's selfishness his kids ended up dead. I really hate that it makes me angry.
