Natalie Cole's career has had many ups and downs, directly related to her drug addiction.  She's an 8 time Grammy Award winner, and also a recovering heroin and crack addict.  She's recently revealed what made her quit, and the moment that opened up her eyes to her powerful addiction.  At one point, it was so serious, she crashed her car while high, and her son, Robert, nearly drowned in the family pool while she was on a drug binge.
Ms. Cole hit rock bottom when she refused to leave a burning building to get her fix.  She said that it was getting hard to breathe.  She was trapped in a room with her body guard, and with only minutes left, she started smoking cocaine because she didn't want to go out straight.  When they were rescued, Cole decided it was time to address her addiction so she went to rehab.  She realized that with drugs, everything starts disintegrating around you, and you have to make a choice.  That one commitment to do whatever it takes, means exactly what it says.  It's not easy.

Wow she wouldn't even leave a burning building just so she could smoke. She was risking her body guards life too! What happened to her now? is she sober? Or is she still getting there?

My uncles ex-wife was addicted to speed. He lives four hours away and never really knew about her addiction that lasted a year and everyday of the year. One day he told her that they were going to come to our town and visit us and she went ballistic! She didn't want to leave town she was going crazy on her knees begging him to not make her go. Thats when he realized that shes addicted. She admitted two days later that she was addicted to speed. She was scared to leave town because she was scared she wouldn't have her fix. I think when Natalie didn't leave the burning building thats probably what was going through her mind also.
