1. Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Of course, it is common to feel anxious at times, but if a person can't shake it off and it's to the point where they are avoiding everyday activities, most likely they have this.
- Symptoms: Tension, Exaggerated Worry, trouble sleeping, headaches, sweating, etc. If the person is experiencing these feelings for more than 6 months they should see their doctor.
2. Panic Disorder: This is when a person experiences sudden terror without warning.
- Symptoms: Pounding heart, chest pains, nausea, shortness of breath, dizziness, hot flashes or chills, etc. People need to see their doctor if they have either 4 attacks within 4 weeks or one or more attacks followed by at least a month of persistent fear of having another one.
3. Phobias: Irrational fears that make people avoid a specific thing or situation
- Symptoms: Panic attacks (pounding heart, sweating, trembling). If the person experiences severe anxiety with exposure to the object or situation or it has significantly impaired their every day life they should see a doctor.
4. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: If a person has experiences, witnessed or participated in a traumatic occurrence especially if it is life threatening. It can be causes by rape, kidnapping, natural disasters, war, etc.
- Symptoms: Nightmares, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, etc.
