The USMC addiction counselors are estimating that more than 500 service members and dependents on Okinawa may be suffering from a gambling addiction. To help, 50 psychologists, social workers, treatment specialists and financial counselors from bases across the island gathered during the week to learn how to screen and treat gambling addiction. I think what they are trying to do is really good. They are trying to help before an addiction actually occurs. In 2005, a study came out reporting that 1.2% of the military population suffered from pathological or compulsive gambling. I think most people don't even realize they have a problem and probably suffer in other areas like drinking or money problems.
