If you are in a relationship do you ever check your partner’s phone when they leave the room? Okay, I'll admit it, I do that almost every time and I'm not sure why. I have no reason not to trust my boyfriend, but I can't help it. In Australia they conducted a study that found 1 in every 3 people check their partners phone when they leave the room and 73% of people have gotten into an argument about something they saw on the phone. I guess some of these people had a reason to snoop because 44% found flirtatious to sexually explicit texts.

I check it as much as I can whether shes in the room or out of the room. I like to make sure of things and I guess I'm nosy because I go through and read everything and I've found lots of things MANNYYYY times.

Sometimes even when just dating a person, I'll sneak their phone to the bathroom to do some searching.  These days, it's hard to really know if a person is telling the truth or if they're actually interested in you.  I don't do it to catch them and get them in trouble, but instead to protect my own feelings.  If I really like a guy, and find out that he's talking to three other girls at the same time, then I'm obviously not going to take them as seriously anymore. 

I agree with Marley. I also check the guy I'm dating's phone to see what they are up to. There is so much temptation in the world we live in today and the ideas of cheating and the ideas that it's okay are everywhere you look. It can cause arguments if you get caught though like oh you don't trust me or whatever, but if they aren't hiding anything why can't we look?

I do it even when hes there. I ask him to show me his phone, and if he says no then theres a biiiig fight.

     I think if your girlfriend or boyfriend has the right to know who you're texting, and what the conversation is about.  Obviously something is bothering them, or they're not trusting you completely, so being open and upfront about it, seems like the best way to handle it. 
     Two days ago, I asked my boyfriend why he was texting this person and he completely snapped at me in front of his parents.  I didn't snap back, but I mentioned how angry I was after dinner was over.  He got really mad at me for asking and caused a big scene.  Well after that, I text him the rudest thing I could think of and it made him go ballistic.  That's not what I wanted, but everything completely blew up in my face and we're still not talking. 
      I've learned that it's best to just be open about text messages because it's going to hurt the other person, whether you're hiding something or not, if you choose to be secretive. 

A friend of mine had a really controlling boyfriend, and his logic about text messages was completely different.  She wasn't allowed to look at his phone, touch it, or ask about it. Even if he wasn't in the room, and someone called him, she wouldn't even think about looking at it, let alone answering it for him.  I thought that was pretty crazy.  I would always be wondering and asking about what he was hiding.  But even if he was, she'd have no way of knowing, she simply had to take his word.  I'm sure it didn't cause any problems regarding finding out about things, but I think that's going too far. 

I think boyfriends and girlfriends should be allowed to check each others phones, its their buisiness also.
