X Files star David Duchovny who played Fox Mulder is currently receiving treatment for sex addiction. He said in a statement, "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family." It said he went voluntarily and I think that’s really good. He knew he needed help and he did something about it. I think that is good for him and his family.

He's doing the right thing and that's wonderful for him and his family, and also all of his fans.  There are tons of family men who are suffering from this addiction, and that means their kids and wives are suffering also.  Sex addiction can be very dangerous, especially when you have a wife, it's so unfair.  I know he can get better with proper treatment.

I think its really good that hes getting treatment, its extremely brave too. But I've been seeing articles about this all over the internet and I think the media should just butt out and let him solve his problem.

I know what you mean, I've seen a ton of articles about this single topic.  But they really should leave him and his family alone, they're not thinking about how embarassing it is for his wife and kids.  I'm sure he's giving a lot of other men suffering from this addiction the courage they need to finally get help.

David's sex addiction has really started a world wide discussion on sex addiction. It was a main headline today on GMA, but the title of the news segment kind of caught me off guard. It said something like Sex Addiction: Disorder or Excuse.  Now I don't know about you, but I don't think any addiction is an excuse. I don't think alcoholics are alcoholics just to make an excuse to drink, I don't think drug addicts take drugs for an excuse, I don't think gambling addicts gamble to lose everything they have and I don't think sex addicts have sex for an excuse....What do you guys think?

I think the reason why they are saying that sex addiction is an excuse is because its not normal to them. Usuallywhen people think of another person having a sex addiction they just think of a person having a lot of sex and laugh about it. Its not taking fully seriously yet. But I think it could be an addiction and it definately shouldn't be taken lightly.

It seems like people who say sex addiction is an 'excuse' are probably the ones who have been hurt by their spouses.  I can understand how someone could have resentment about the illness and their partners inability to control it, but it's not right to say it's an excuse.  I don't necessarily believe it's a disease, but it's a matter of poor, selfish choices.  It's a way of numbing your feelings, but ultimately you have to take responsibility for your actions and the people you hurt.
