Confessions of a Workaholic

If you're like me, you have a schedule that consists of 16-18 hour days... every day! A few of my friends have called me Cinderella or a workaholic because if I'm not at school, I'm working, and if I'm at home I'm usually catching up on chores. This all seems really effective, and it is.. I'm only eighteen and I have two years of college finished and I work about 35 hours a week part time, and a ton of other responsibilities including a fun social life. But eventually all of this productivity can and will catch up to anyone! If I dare go to bed late on Sunday night, I'm virtually screwed because there's simply no room in my schedule for cat naps. And it's no fun hanging out with someone when they're too tired to even converse with you... So I made a list of a few pointers to follow for me and anyone in a similar situation. =)
1. Coffee is not breakfast.
2. An afternoon pot of coffee is not lunch.
3. Red Bull is not a substitute for sleeping.
4. Don't "catch up on work" every weekend.
5. Sleeping 16 hours straight on the weekend isn't really "catching up" on sleep.
6. A lunch break is more than 10 minutes.
7. Eating fast food in the car between appointments doesn't count as a lunch break, either.
8. Cigarettes are not a food group.
9. Typing is not exercise.
10. Spending a week in bed sick recovering from doing all of the above is not a vacation.

why is 16 hours of sleep on the weekend not considered catching up on sleep? I do that after a busy week, I sleep sooo much and by monday I feel great again!

I think it's considered catching up on sleep, however it's not the best way... we're supposed to sleep between 7-9 hours a night and while we sleep less and less hours every night, by the end of the week, it's natural to just crash for hours.. it's not healthy to push your body to the limit and give it one big rest on a weekly basis. This is okay once in a while, but definitely not every week. Eating habits similar to this aren't good either.

But sometimes your body just needs the sleep. And its much healthier to just let it have all the rest it can get. Because when it comes time for the weekdays again your still going to be depriving your self of it because of such a busy schedule right? I feel a lot better after having a well rested weekend.

On the weekends I try to stay up as late as I can and then sleep in for as late as possible and even nap throughout the day. I love doing that. But I'm sure that's not healthy and then on Sunday night when I sleep I cant fall asleep early so I sleep late and wake up early for work on Monday. I'm lacking sleep from the beginning of the week! Its not good.
