Alcoholic mothers on the rise!
Alcoholic mothers on the rise!

I was reading this article that talked about how these days there are more women addicts than there are men. A treatment center in New Hampshire five or six years ago would have 3 out of 10 patients that are women and the rest men. But now their treatment centers have 70% women patients. Women seem to have more of a problem with alcohol, especially mothers. But it’s also hard for a mother to get treated because they risk losing their children when they seek for help. I think that’s something that needs to be changed. A woman should not have to have her children taken away from her if she seeks help. If she doesn’t and she has an addiction than that’s acceptable but if she’s planning on changing and actually doing something about it they shouldn’t take them away. That will only keep her addicted longer because she won’t be able to get help!

I just heard this on the radio and was shocked. Researchers are saying that 1 in every 100 babies are affected by their mothers drinking while pregnant. And more than 6000 are born every year with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. 1 in 10 moms don’t even think that drinking is bad while being pregnant. I think it's important for women to learn about pregnancy and what can upset and hurt your baby.

1 in 100 babies, that's a huge number! The signs and symptoms of fetal alcohol syndrome are almost like down syndrome, and with severe cases, the baby can have mental retardation. Think about all of the chances these mothers are ruining for their kids, they're robbing them of a normal life! You're right, these poor children did nothing to deserve this, it's so sad!

I think we can all agree that alcohol isn't the answer for escaping from life's problems. Often, mothers are the ones who deal with all of the emotional problems of the family and have no time for themselves and their own needs. If mom is resorting to alcohol to escape, then it needs to be a family effort to help her, and especially for husbands to make sure that their wives are making good choices during pregnancy.

I think a video should be shown to every newly pregnant woman about how alochol can damage her baby. Not just make it a little sick but have a life time disease. It's so sad to see some of these kids who could've lived a normal life instead have diseases given to them by their mothers selfishness.
