Illinois created an inpatient facility to treat internet addicts. This is the only in-patient facility in the United States that offers treatment for internet addicts. This may sound like a ridiculous addiction but is actually serious. Addicts get the same high when they get on the computer as a drug addict headed to the dealer; both of them are escapes from the real world. Patients meet in group therapy sessions with other addicts and are told to get rid of their home computers. And if they use computers for work they are told to ask their boss to block the computer from having any internet access.
I wonder, once these addicts recover do you think they would ever be able to go back to using the internet without going back to their old habits? Our lives are surrounded by internet, at work, at coffee shops, on our cell phones, literally everywhere. It’s like no one can function without it. Do you think they would never be able to go back to it?

I think that's a personal choice, whether they're healthy enough to handle going on the Internet.  It's good though, that people are finally taking this addiction seriously.  Especially with the availability like you said, it's literally everywhere.  The addict just has to want to sustain a normal life, more than they desire to be online.

That would be a very hard addiction to stay recovered from. Emails are required for almost everything. Work school friends all of it. Really thinking of a life without internet is really unimaginable. I use my email to keep intuoch with friends, to know and inform things for work, to find out many important things for school its hard without it. But I think the best a recovered addict could do is just be monitored whenever he does use the internet. Maybe after a long time they'll be able to control themselves, but if it were certain sites that had them addicted I dont think they should ever return to them.
