Another story like this just happened to a 64-year old Floridian woman who also emptied out her 401K, SS money and even mortgaged her house. The lady was severely depressed and used gambling as an escape. In Florida alone, 9 million people played the lottery this year and 4 million visited a casino. The numbers have increased so much because of all the new casinos popping up. This is crazy, I couldn't image losing everything I worked for in life and she was probably retired and now has nothing!!

This woman could've only spent a fraction of the money she blew on helpful therapy.  Now she's left with nothing, only a gambling addiction.  If I were severely depressed and had a retirement fund, I'd take a thrill seeking vacation to paradise somewhere, or do humanity work.. something besides gamble it all away! 

she couldve spent that money doing better thigns with her family. She could've tooken her grandkids on vacation and did so much better stuff than blow it all on gambling!

I think it's wise to set limits for yourself and only set that amount of money aside.  Only set aside $100 or so, if you lose it then it's gone.  And when you win, don't gamble that away, set it aside too.  It's important to know when to walk away, but more imoirtantly to know when to stay away altogether. 

My grandparents set their self an certain amount of money they can use a month and they cant go over that. Even if they really really need something, then they save up from the amount tht they allow themselves and they buy it. However my grandparents from my mothers side spend like no other!! My grandpa from my moms side has got a total shopping addiction, he buys all the new gadgets as soon as they come out and he gets a new car every year! But I think the way my other grandparents spend their money is the wisest. Thats hwat that lady shouldve done, not spend her whole savings on a silly gambling prolem
