Amount of Clothes..

Whenever I start getting too obsessed with shopping, I'll start catching myself with certain indicators.  Like when I get a paycheck, I automatically think of the amount in terms of clothes I can buy.  I've never spent a whole paycheck on clothes, but it's got pretty close.  This is very bad because I have my own apartment and bills to pay so I can't be thinking about clothes all of the time.  Also when I'm at the mall, I always have to go 'browse' what's new and in season.  This is a trick because I'm the type of person that can't just look around, I'm not the best at controlling my impulses.  Just wanted to share with everyone, so you can learn your own indicators that you may be too obsessed with shopping.

The biggest indicator for me is when I start 'secret shopping.'  I have a fiance and we have a joint account that we share.  But this last month I noticed a tax refund had been deposited into the joint checking account and I went straight to the mall and bought a 100 dollar pair of shoes.  It's like it was never there.  He didn't end up finding out about my purchase until a month later.  I was trying to be super sneaky about it, and it was kind of like, "I think I'll head down and buy some new shoes."  This incident started a series of secret shopping, I'd buy things and stuff them in my trunk and eventually to my closet. I think my habits are fairly typical, but now that we're closer to getting married, I feel bad spending behind his back.  I now consult with him and we think if I really need a certain item or whether the money could be better spent on something we can both enjoy. :)

Do you think it is bad to make a purchase on something kind of expensive and pay half credit and half cash? This way you don't have a huge bill come in. My grandma used to do this to hide prices from my grandpa haha. She's sneaky and they had the money, but for me I think it's a good idea so I can pay some upfront.

That is a really good idea actually!  I think it's more responsible than sneaky.. because that way your next pay period doesn't all go to your credit card bill.  I use my credit card as minimally as possible, usually only to buy gas.

I try my hardest to not use my credit card.. I'm the type of person that will keep putting off paying it. Like I'll start thinking "I can just pay it next week and this week I'll go buy this" so I just try my hardest to stay away from that credit card.
