A Solution to the Porn Problem

With the availability of porn these days, its become a bigger epidemic than most of us realize.  One out of 10 adults admits to Internet sexual addiction.  And 47 percent of families say porn's a problem in their homes.  This epidemic of porn is even flodding the church.  Even pastors aren't immune.  Some 37 percent admit to struggling with porn.  Basically this problem of porn could happen to anyone...  Even women, about 17 percent are addicted.
But for those tens of millions addicted to porn, there is a way out.  Start by telling yourself "You don't have to have it... you want to have it."  The point is not to make excuses, but clearly repent, then throw yourself to the Lord.  Once you repent, you're already making a huge choice.  You're saying, I want to be healthier.  Going to the Lord for strength and for the healing is the only key you have.
It's important to quit cold turkey and clean house--getting rid of all porn materials and making sure you can't access it online.  You need to tell yourself, "I want this freedom.  I don't want this thing to control my life."  Also, you need to let someone else know about your addiction, so you can be held accountable, so they can watch your back.  You can't just do it alone.  You might stay sober for one year, but then a few peeks and suddenly you find yourseld back into a full-blown addiction.

A reason behind the increase in porn addiction is the relaxed acceptance of it.  I've heard many people talk about how porn is just a guy thing, all guys look at it.  However this isn't true at all.  I know a lot of dudes that won't look at porn for their own personal reasons and that's cool.

agreed. i'm a guy and i dont look at it and as far as i know neither do most of my friends. i remember in intermediate school tho it was considered cool and risky to look at it. but then i grew up and dont care what others think is cool.

I just read about a new book coming out about porn addiction and it is faith based from a man who suffered from this and only was able to get out of his addiction because of his faith in God. It's called Porn Nation so I think it may be worth getting if you know anyone who may have this addiction.

Doesn't the porn industry generate more money than all pro sports combined? That is so unbelievably crazy to me. The freedom of the internet has made it where anyone has access to pornography whenever they want, even children. It is so important to monitor the sites that your children visit and on your TV like the commercial you can be the boss of it and lock channels they shouldn't be watching, even if it's not porn, but bad language or something too old for their age group to watch. My best friend is going through a divorce as such a young age. Her husband would look at porn every day and would try to hide it. Well she found it on her computer and confronted him. He couldn't even lie and try to hide it because she caught him red handed. That was the beginning of their problems and a couple months ago they decided their marriage just wasn't working. Porn is like a home wrecker. Really, any addiction is.

I think porn could be one of the hardest addictions to over come. Once a person has become addicted to it and then recovers they're still going to be surrounded by it. Every movie there is theres a sex scene and its so easily accesible on the internet and the internet is all around us! But its a bad addiction and should be helped.

The author's name is Michael Leahy "Porn Nation" is the title.  It should be in Christian bookstores.  I didn't look to see if it was on Amazon, or in Borders, Barnes and Noble.

caring.

I think in recovering any addiction your going to need help. Its not easy to do it alone and without someone supporting you its so easy to go back to it. one peak no one will no, one hit no one will know, one shot no one will know. And then your back to the square one. In any recovery help is needed, its one of the steps to the path of success and sobriety!
