we all know that when there is a 3 day weekend alcohol related incidents are one the rise. this year for the 4th of july in minnesota, 8000 more officers will be working the weekend. the increase of safety is costing $500,000 which will be paid by federal grants. the state is also spending $250,000 on media ads to try and reduce driving fatalities. hopefully with all they are doing they will see a result in their efforts.

over the weekend arizona had 137 arrests in 2 days dor dui violations. 94 came from friday alone and 41% had an alcohol content level of .15% or above. I think its good that people are getting caught, i think that they will really think about ever doing it again.

Minesota has some of the most relaxed laws regarding drinking and driving.  The federal government even threatened to cut their finances if they didn't comply to raise the minimum alcohol blood level.  Harsher laws means worse punishments, and less offenders.  All of those arrests mean a lot of lives were saved this weekend.

I think that police officers have one of the hardest jobs. I mean the majority of people probably don't even like them, but they are saving lives by making the laws a little tighter and keeping an extra watch during the busy times. Thank you to all of our military and peace officers for making the world safer.

One of my good friends is going to school to be a police officer and I'm already starting to worry about him.  Right now he's a security guard and has already been shot at, even stopped a child predator, and dealt with a lot of drug addicts.  It seems like everyday he has to deal with something crazy, but he's a hero to me for doing it.
