why do you think people refuse to get the help or treatment they need when they have an addiction? if they could just quit it would make their lives so much better and be a healthier person. i bet half or even more than half of the time people do quit or seek treatment because they dont think they are really addicted to it..whatever it may be..drugs, alcohol, porn, internet, gaming, gambling...the list goes on and on. i think people are so in denial with life they dont want to see that they have problems..whats your spin on it??

The hardest thing for me was admitting to myself that I actually had an addiction.  I also wasn't sure that I was ready for treatment.  Quitting drugs is extremely hard for addicts, it's a whole lifestyle change and it means coming to terms with your behavior and doing something to make up for it.
I thought drugs were the only thing that made me, me.  I couldn't picture myself not smoking pot. It was a scary thought, but I didn't really care. Sobriety wasn't appealing to me.
What finally got me to stay sober was when I started getting into church.  I discovered that living right was actually worth it.  I never cared about making good decisions because it was so much easier to numb myself so that  wouldn't care.  Now I feel so much better about myself and the decisions I'm making, because I know I can be a positive influence on someone's life.

I think it's a struggle with yourself.  People don't want to grow up and act like adults.  It's suposedly 'easier' to do drugs all day and be free of any responsibilities.  If you're a drug addict, people assume you can't do anything productive, so you're not accountable to anything.  It's a battle within themselves, deciding whether they want to stay a drug addict or become a productive member of society, which is sometime scary because  you no longer have all of the answers.

I think quitting is just hard for them. They dont know that they are as addicted as they are and when they try to quit they cant.
