Injury in the War

I just read a touching story about a 40 year old man, Capt. Ivan Castro, in the Army who lost his eye sight from when the mortar round blasted off 5 feet from his face. Since the war in Iraq, 100 soldiers have lost their eye sight completely and 247 have lost it in 1 eye. Capt. Castro is the only blind officer serving in the Special Forces. He said he will not be happy just sitting in an office all day. Isn't that great determination?

At least that guy is not giving up on what he loves to do. I didn't even think about all the people who have to live with serious injuries like that after they are out of the military. It must be hard at first to relearn how to do things if you lose an arm or your eye sight.

I bet this is hard on the family they come home to also. If your husband or wife comes back losing a ligament or can't see that is going to affect both of your lives forever. I think it takes a lot to be a military spouse because you just don't know what could happen.
