drinking and driving don't mix

People know not to drink and drive, but they do it anyways. Robert Pas who is 41 years old (he should know better) was charged Monday with aggravated driving under the influence, killing an innocent person. This would be formally known as reckless homicide. His bail was set Tuesday for 1 million dollars! He was driving on the Stevenson Expressway with his blood-alcohol level more than 4x the legal limit!! This is so ridiculous! Why are people so selfish and not think of other people that will be on the road? It isn’t hard to call a taxi to get you or call someone you know to pick you up. Now an innocent man is dead.

This man has probably drove drunk dozens of times, except this time he got too drunk and killed someone.  You'd think people would learn from other's mistakes and realize they're making a bad decision.  I've picked up a few friends to drive them home more than once, and everytime I know I probably saved a person's life.  Just last weekend my friend called me and said he was swerving and couldn't drive.  I couldn't believe that he drove in the first place, but right away I came to help him.
Alcohol impairs our judgement more than any drug.  You do things you would't normally do and once you get in the habit of drinking, you pick up behaviors that are actually ridiculous.  I always hear the phrase 'buzzed driving is drunk driving' and it's true.
