Have you ever read Galatians 5:19-21? If you haven't you should, it points out sinful nature. In verse 21 it clearly points out that drunkenness will not get you into the kingdom of God. There are other sins that are pointed out like jealousy, envy, and even sexual immorality. This is like what the world lives off of. I'm not saying it's easy, in face, I think a lot of people struggle with these sins. One of my buddies just the other day said he didn't see anything with him going out and getting drunk. These verses didn't even come to mind. I think it's important to pray before you witness to people so that God will be speaking through you and you'll always say the right thing.

I don't really ever read my bible. I was given one many years ago, but honestly it just collects dust in my room. I had never read this passage before and lately I have been really searching for that something that is missing in my life. Do you believe it is God? I have just been let down so many times before by people who say they are Christians and live another life. If you are professing the name of Jesus why are you drinking alcohol and cussing? I know I shouldn't let that control my relationship with God, but it does. Has anyone else gone through something like this? I think this happens way more than we think.

I'm sorry you've had to deal with a lot of hypocrits during your walk with God.  I've met a lot of people like how your're describing, I was even one myself.  Now I try on a daily basis to not go back down the same paths that I have before.  I know now that I've hurt way too many people, and especially God.  I think in that verse though, God was talking to unsaved people.  He's saying yes, be children of God and clearly stating that you cannot get to heaven on your own free will.  We have to be saved and after we've asked God into our hearts, we can never lose our salvation.  In John 6:37, Jesus says he will not "cast out" anyone who comes to Him for salvation.  It is impossible for a believer to keep the entire law, that is why we need a Savior.  In Romans 8:38-39, God explains how nothing can seperrate us from God's love.  We should be confident that we have eternal life.  Just because we can never lose our salvation, it doesn't mean that we sholdn't strive to be perfect in his eyes.  He knows we are sinners and knows that we are going to sin on a daily basis, but it doesn't affect his love for us.  Living in win will affect our walk with him, and we won't be as close to him, which in turn, we won't be able to do as many works for God, but God won't turn his back on us if we are asking for forgiveness and making an effort to rid the sin in our life.

I don't think He was talking to the unsaved people. The Bible was written for Christians and what Christians need to know and how to follow God's word. I just think a lot of people don't want to hear it and try to live 2 lives.

A lot of people do try to live different lives.  Like they're a different person once they walk out of church.  But just because we leave church, it doesn't mean God still isn't with us.  I think if someone is struggling, they need to be in church more because anyone's life can be changed.  These days we're surrounded by so many tempting things, it seems like sex and addiction is everywhere.
