I have been with my boyfriend for a couple years now and lately I have noticed that his behavior is very strange and not really like him. His father passed away a couple weeks ago and then he lost his job a week after. I know he's going through a lot right now and is very stressed about things, but I think there is something deeper than just depression. Ever since these two major things happened he will set unrealistic plans in life and it's just like where is this coming from, it doesn't even make sense. He will also drive very wrecklessly and there have been so many close calls. I'm not sure if he just doesn't think he has anything to live for or what, but then a week later he is in a deep depression where he won't even speak to me. I also once took his phone and he had around 3 voicemails from his cell phone company and utilities asking where his payment was. He just doesn't seem to care much about anything and I've been doing research and found many things in common with his behavior and bipolar disorder. It really freaks me out and I hope this is the worse case, I just don't know what to do for him. Any advice? Much appreciated.

I think it'd be best for you to bring up the bahaviors that have been bothering you the most, and the fact that you're very worried about him. But be really sympathetic too, it sounds like he's been through a lot lately, I'm sorry to hear about his loss, that's so sad to lose a parent. But be very supportive and let him know that you're there for him. Guys aren't very good at expressing their emotions, so they may act weird if they're not able to deal with their feelings.

Maybe make an appointment with his doctor who may give you a number for a psychologist to better pinpoint what the real problem is. Good luck, it seems like this would be very hard on both of you.
