Falling In Love....

I've kind of figured that it's best not to fall in love, unless you're ready for marriage. With all of the issues facing teens today, a serious relationship most likely isn't going to turn out with a happy ending. Falling in love only leads to jealousy, fighting, suicides, etc. I recently got out of a serious relationship and I wish I hadn't said a lot of the things I did. Now, I'm left feeling a little disoriented because I thought I was so deeply in love with this guy when really it wasn't true love, just young lust. And he's still feeling very attached and feels betrayed as if I was lying to him the entire relationship. I guess you have to learn from your mistakes, it just sucks being in this position... any thoughts on this??

OO, break ups are really hard. Even if you were the one who ended it. You may experience an identity crisis, not knowing who you are anymore without your partner. Not necessarily because you didn't have your own identity while in the relationship, but that your relationship had become part of that identity. This too will change and you will feel more secure in yourself again. It's really important that you try to separate out which of your feelings, beliefs and responses belong to the present situations and which ones belong in the past. You'll probably go through a few stages of greif, but eventually those will pass and you'll start laughing more and feeling hopeful. Filling yourself with activities that you enjoy-- creative, playful, sociable, soulful activities-- are all ways to nurture yourself back to health.
