Addiction or Relationship?
Addiction or Relationship?

My girlfriend and I live together and lately we've been struggling so she moved back with her mom even though we've lived together for over a year. But it sucks, I'm feeling really depressed about it. I'm the type of person that hates being alone, but she always likes to go out after work with friends. I'm stuck at home, ususally chillen with my friends playing video games. But she's too stressed to come home and when she is at home, she's drinking... and I'm too depressed to clean the house. I think all of our problems are because of her drinking, but I'm not too sure anymore. Is it more important to first fix an addiction before your relationship???

I think if you fix your addiction issues first, then it'll be a lot easier to fix your relationship issues. But if she's gonna make the effort to quit drinking every night, then you need to step it up and be a good, supportive boyfriend. She'll love your for that and see that you're not just sitting around while she's working. Best of luck...

I think if she stopped drinking as much she does it could help solve a lot of your problems. She'll have a more stable mind and alcohol wont be affecting her so much. Sometimes too much alcohol depresses a person out. Suggest going to AA. Go with her if she wants, just help her quit. And I think as soon as her addiction goes away your problems would too.

I think you should schedule an intervention. Have her family help with this also. She'll be mad at first but she'll thank you for it in the long run and it could fix most the problems in your relationship.

It sounds like she's going through a lot right now in her life, and alcoholism could be just one of the symptoms. I want to warn you though, that the beginning steps of recovery can be hard. Especially for the person working the steps, women are dealing with all of the things that caused them to drink, alcohol is the escape. If you really want to stay with her, it'd be best to be as big of a support as possible and maybe take a step back from the relationship issues so that she can get healthy.

Alessandras right. Through out her recovery, don't make things hard for her. Even if there are things that are bothering you so much dont stress her out with it. Focus on getting her sober and getting her used to staying sober. She'll find other ways to cope with things instead of drinking them away. She'll be much healthier and better in so many ways and when she's better she will be able to work on your relationship issues better.
