Seizure Drug Treats Alcoholism

A drug used to treat epilepsy, called Gabapentin, was tested recently for alcoholism. Patients that took Gabapentin drank significantly less alcohol than patients who didn't take the medicine. The researchers said the patients reacted really well to the drug. It used to be given to patients to reduce alcohol consumption and cravings following detoxification. This research is really promising, I'd really consider taking this drug... I'd like to see more research on it though. It could help a lot of people, give them that soemthing extra to help them quit.

This would be good for people who are already quitting but need something extra, you're right. But it probably can't be the only thing to rely on when quitting. Alcohol is one of the hardest things to quit for sure.
