Alcohol Banned at Beach

Del Mar City Council made an emergency decision last night to ban alcohol at city beaches and parks between Memorial Day-Labor Day. This decision was made after their public service director reported that there was an increase in alcohol consumption during the last 2 weekends.  Violators may be fined $100 for their first offense. Some people are mad about this decision saying that they are being too uptight, but another person made a good point, you can’t go around drinking on the streets so why should you on beaches and in parks? It’s a big problem when people become reckless and harmful. Whenever there is drinking people tend to drive drunk or even doing stupid things at the beach. It just doesn’t sound safe and people tend to drink more over the holidays.

Yeah, people may be mad, but I think they are just trying to look out for their community. I think it kind of looks bad on the cities part if they encourage/allow that to happen. The summer is such a crazy time for parties and stuff and I think in a result they are kind of the cities fault for letting it happen. I wonder if they will see a decrease in alcohol related accidents/crime because of this decision.

Solana Beach banned alcohol a year ago too. The beach wasn't having any problems like previous beaches, but since they were one of the only ones to allow drinking they thought they were asking for trouble. This leaves Camp Pendleton and Silver Strand State Beach near Coronado as the only beaches in the county that allow liquor.
