When do you think the world is going to start taking addiction seriously. It's a disease and people are not realising that. When people hear aboug it on TV they say things like "Oh well its their fault", or "theyre just a bunch of druggies". When really these door knobs need to learn that addiction is a serious disease and anyone can be a victim. Its not by choice it takes over you.

I think that one show, intervention, or shows about people with addictions will teach the world, itll help a lot.

I don't think drugs will never go away. They are everywhere and taking over the world. Almost everyone has tried some sort of drug and many more are addicted and can't find the help and resources they need to quit. That's why I think this site is going for the support factors of addiction.

I think there will be a revolution very soon. If you read the news at all you will see every day an article about addiction and even more now more and more cities and countries are trying to ban smoking. I think the government is trying to make a stand and make the air we breath better. They can't do it alone though and I'm sure it will take years to make and take addiction seriously.

I think it will go on forever. Sure there may be things the government is trying to do to curb smoking but there are also so many people trying to legalize some drugs and trying to lower the drinking age. Drugs and alcohol are apart of our lives now and we all need to get a better understanding of all the damages it could do to us and our kids.

I'd have to disagree with you a little V4victory. If addiction is a disease, then it's self administered. I've heard it's possible to become addicted to something the first time you try it. If it takes over you at that point, then you're in trouble. Where does the disease come from? Is it the drug, or the addict's mentality? It's hard for addicts to see their problem until it is really hurting them. Ultimately the person chooses to use drugs, they don't force themselves upon anyone. Blaming drugs as a "disease" seems to be another form of denying responsibility for you own actions.

I agree with DireSkill, to me, it's a disease that is brought on.  It's a person's own choice to do drugs, and they're taking the risk of getting addicted.  How they choose to manage and overcome their disease is also their own choice.  It's hard for some people to get the whole concept of addiction when they haven't battled an addiction themselves or went through it with a loved one.

I agree that addiction is a disease that is brought on by a person but I think what V4victory was trying to say was that once a person is addicted it is a disease and they aren't druggies and junkies as some people describe. People imagine that an addict, "could change if he wanted to" but thats not true at that point its formed into a disease and they cant. There's withdrawals mentally and physically and people think that these are minor that anyone can overcome it but they're not. Addictions to substances like heroin and alcohol, those withdrawals can be so severe as to kill a person. Thats when addiction is considered a disease and I think that that is what V4victory meant when she wrote this. Am I right?
