One of my friend just got a new job but doesn't have a car and has some major bills to pay.  But I've heard a lot of people say that because they're getting a job, they need to open up a credit card to pay for work clothes, gas, etc... I don't think that's a smart thing to do.. wadu think?

She should buy a scooter, they're cheap on gas and I doubt the insurance is expensive.  Her bills are important, if she doesn't pay them she's going to ruin her credit.  I don't think she should open a new credit card, a month will come around in no time and it'll just be another bill to pay.

I dont think a credit card is a good idea at all. Once she gets a car she will also have car payments to pay, and she will be spending all her money that she may not have enough to pay her credit card bills. Interest rates will kick in too and she'll be so far in debt before she knows it. I think if she could get support from a family member for a few hundred dollars just to start and then pay them back. Untill she gets her first pay check she could fill up gas with that and get her essentials with that. But credit card, no way. Also what if she's not responsible enough for one and ends  up spending like crazy. I have a friend that did that.

One of my best friends went crazy with her Macy's credit card.  She
works there and it's so tempting to her.  Basically her whole paycheck
goes back to Macy's it's so dumb.  I think your friend should just live
frugal, only buy essentials for the summer and save up for a small
chick car that's good on gas.

dude, my ex did that! and guess who had to pay off her debt when she got carried away? if you guessed me you are right. I helped her the best I could, so no I don't think that's a smart idea. Maybe like alternate paying with cash/debit and a credit card. Some people can limit themselves, but if you can't then you just keep spending because you know you have a month to pay it off or whatever the case may be.

I think that if she gets a credit card but then has the bank put her at a really low limit and shes serponsible enough to not ask for higher than that could be OK. But shes also got to make sure that she has a good job that will be able to pay off all these things.

If shes responsible with paying off her stuff, and she will be making a big enough income then I think a credit card wouldn't be so bad.

When I first read this post I was thinking "noo way" a credit card would be a verry bad idea. But I like your idea georgey. I think that could work as long as he doesn't try to get a higher limit after fnishing that one. And he should set up to where like 30% fo her paycheck goes to that credit card bill every month.

I think a credit card can put her in much more debt than she anticipated
