Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson failed a sobriety test while operating a 30-foot boat, then resisted arrest before being hit with pepper spray and dragged ashore by officers. He faces charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest after the incident this Saturday night on Lake Travis. Benson was released from jail early Sunday morning on a $14,500 bond. There were 15 other people on the boat with him when he was stopped by a Lower Colorado River Authority office for a random safety inspection.
"When Benson did not pass the test, he presented himself as a threat to the officer and argued about whether or not he would be taken to land to have a follow-up field sobriety test performed on land and refused to put on a life jacket," the authority said in a statement.

I swear, I just went to the lake this weekend and my buddy was drinking. Just like if he was driving a car, we took away the keys and wouldn't let him drive the boat, even though it was his. The rangers are sneaky too, they'll watch the boats with binoculars. Driving a boat is just as hard as driving a car, except you're riding around with 15 people so it's actually more responsibility. And there's no seat belts on a boat. I bet he felt pretty ridiculous being handled like that in front of everyone.

I never thought that drinking and boating was really that bad. Just because there's so much water in front of you and on the road theres cars all over the place. But recently they've been playing a bunch of commercials on the radio about boating incidents and each one is different and they're sad. I never could imagine a trip to the lake going that bad.
