Ok so I was reading this article and it was about this woman who was arrested and charged with 10-20 years of prison for dealing heroin. She escaped. The prison assigned her to work at 6:30 AM at a clinic at the prison and was given a pass to allow her to move freely. In 1976 she left the prison for work and never came back.  She is married now and has 3 children. She hasn’t used drugs or dealed them. Her husband describes her, "I've known my wife for over 23 years, and she is a person of the highest integrity and compassion. During that time, she's been nothing but a wonderful wife and mother. She has raised three beautiful children and has worked hard to build a good life for them in this community. She is kind, intelligent and a compassionate mother who has dedicated her life to their well-being. ... She has the full support of her extended family and many friends in the area who will attest to her honorable character and positive contributions to this community."
To me it seems like she has already learned her lesson and I don’t see the need for her to go back to prison. I think just house arrest and probation is good enough and she should be excused. But obviously the law doesn’t work that way and she will have to return to prison and serve the rest of her sentence plus a 5 year extra for escaping.

That's really sad, I feel bad for her family now.  But she must have figured that eventually they would catch her.  You cannot expect to just escape from prison and go live a normal life.  But I can't say that I wouldn't have made the same decision, I can't imagine going to prison.

That must be so horrible. It looks like she turned her whole life around though. And she was so young when she got arrested. I think her sentence was a bit too long, and the way she has been living her life must account to something right? But the law is the law, whether its justice or not. If they let her off the hook then why not all the other fugitives and convicts in the world?

That's a good point.  I think it'd be helpful if they made it mandatory for drug users to go through a drug treatment program so that they can reduce their sentence and get help too.

I think there should be a law that like if you wanted and haven't been found for 7 years but have completely changed into a much better person with proof of it, then you should be off the hook with just probation. It'll be helping out a lot of people. Like all those people who commited their crimes at a young young age, they could make a 180* turn in just a few years. I dont think they deserve to spend most of their lives in prison for something they did as a kid.

Thats a good idea. But I dont think they should be let off the hook that easy, they should have to do community service, maybe talk high schoolers and tell them their story and how doing drugs at such a young age can mess you up in ways you can never ever imagine. But if the person was in jail for murder and escaped I do not agree and they should be put back in the cage forever.

imagine life as a fugitive though. no license no car, no credit car, or ID,or job. Imagine even health insurance :-/ that must suck. But I also think they should give her a break.

I agree that murder should me unforgivable no matter at what age. But when a person messes around with drugs at such a young age after they get older they should get a second chance. Especially if its like this fugitive that escaped and changed completely.
