Key to Giving up Smoking...

For women who want to give up smoking, it could be a matter of timing.  The chances of succeeding are much higher if they call a halt to the habit in the days before their menstrual cycle.  Researchers point to sex hormones- the main ones being estrogen and progestrone- as the reason.  The surges and lulls experienced during a typical 28-day cycle could affect the severity of nicotine withdrawal symptoms.  The hormones could influence the speed at which nicotine is removed from the blood.  Women who give up smoking about 2 days before their menstrual cycle begins are 60% more likely to stay smoke free than women who give up smoking during the luteal stage, or period of time between ovulation and the start of the next cycle.  But there's still lots of help available regardless of the time of the month.

Well I should share this with my girlfriends.  They're actually addicted to cigarettes, it's so sad because whenever they see me, it's like hey, can you buy me a pack of ciggs? PLeeeeeZ?  I can hardly stand it, but I keep telling myself it's their addiction talking, not them.  But they've all made new years resolutions to quit and all failed within a few hours after midnight.  But they've been talking about quitting for months, so this may be the trick they need :)

If your friends really decide to quit, give them some extra tips like starting a money jar with the money they save from not buying cigarettes.  And also let them know to accept and let go of their cravings because they're actually signs that your body is healing itself and they should only last 3-5 minutes.  Remind them to be patient atoo.  It's cool that you're trying to be a supportive friend tho, good luck with everyting ;)

Also try to get ALL your friends to quit not just one, because if just one is quitting and the rest are smoking right infront of her it makes it so much harder for her.

You could also try to make it like a fun thing.  Since they're all planning on quitting, maybe you should do something every month or so to celebrate.  Quitting smoking is such a huge deal.

That is interesting..  I didn't know that time of month played such a big role. My brother's girlfriend smokes and she says that every time she tries to quit something stressful happens and she can't do it. I personally think she just doesn't want to. I should share this info though.
