How long can you go without watching TV?

And, of course, this would also include situations where you don't have much of a choice, such as a hurricane hitting your area and leaving it without power for some time.

To be honest, I think the most I could tolerate is a day or so. I don't watch over four hours a day of scheduled programming if I can avoid it, but I do need to watch at least some news and entertainment shows to keep informed and have some diversion other than reading.

I have family members and friends who could not go a day without television, and I know some of them are addicts, but they just don't want to admit it. As for me, I can take it or leave it. In fact, not having a television at all in the house would be perfectly fine with me.

actually I've realised when I have a lot to do I dont watch TV at all. But when i'm at home with everything I do I have to have the TV on. I went on a cruise a few weeks ago and I didn't turn on the TV once. Also I traveled with some friends and spent the whole time out and the only time during that whole week that I watched some TV was on the plane ride. So I guess if I'm doing something fun constantly, I can live without a TV :).. I guess this proves I'm not a TV addict hehe.

I've realised that when a TV isn't around me, I can go quite a while without using it. I never get the urge to watch TV or feel like I need to. I do enjoy it but if its not there I wont feel the need for it.

I just moved to a new house and there isn't cable yet and I think I'm going to die! I had no idea how much I relied on the TV until it was gone. I've been watching DVDs every night and during the day to occupy my time. I think when I had cable I must have watched 5 or 6 hours during the day and more on the weekends. I remember when I was younger my mom would only allow me to watch like an hour a day and the rest of the time I had to be reading a book. I hated her for it then, but I can see why she wanted that for me.

I think I could go a week to a month without tv. We don't have cable anyways so I don't know if it would be that hard for me to go without.

I could probably go a couple days without the TV, but that would depend on what night it is.. I watch certain shows on Monday night and Thursday night so I think I could go without watching TV but I would have to watch those shows. Plus I usually watch the news so then I would feel disconnected from the world if I didn't know what was going on.

I just watch tv randomly throughout the week.  I don't really have any shows that I have to watch, but I know what's on when I'm at home and usually I'm glued to it.  But if I'm out and doing other stuff, then I'm not thinking about what I'm missing on tv.

I dont really watch TV, even when I'm home. But there are just 2 shows that I'll schedule my whoe week around for. I cant miss my desperate housewives or Greys anatomy.

I'm totally hooked to this new series called 'Planet Earth.'  That's one show that I have serious regrets if I miss.  However, I think it's a good thing to have one or two shows that you love to watch.  I mean you may even be addicted to them, but it's only a couple hours a week and you're planning your activities around it, so you're handling it responsibly. Watching your favorite shows seems pretty healthy for your mind, especially if they make you laugh.

I agree with lilsmoke I dont see anything wrong with watching a few TV shows a week. But I dont think its good to have to keep up with like 5 or 6 of them and they're all on different days and having to schedule your whole week around them thats too much. I think 2 or 3 is perfect. They're entertaining and we enjoy them. We shouldn't stay away from every enjoyable thing just because too much of it is not good.
