Tea that helps you sleep?

Tea that helps you sleep?

I've been under a great deal of stress as of late - family health issues, work-related problems, and financial woes - and thus I've been a bit sleepless in Miami lately. I toss. I turn. I stay up all night watching movies or reading.

I don't want to start taking sleeping pills.  I don't like the idea of taking drugs that can become, well, addictive, yet I need something to help me sleep.

A friend of mine recommended I drink Sweet Dreams Tea by Bigelow, which has a blend of chamomile and hibiscus flowers in it.  I'm not really keen on this, since tea isn't, erm, my cup of tea...but I'm at my wit's end and need something short of having to take Lunesta or Ambien.

Certain allergy tablets will knock some people right out. Run to the store and buy some that don't have non-drowsy written on them. Although, expect to have vivid dreams while you balance between being awake and asleep.

That's interesting. Which allergy tablets? I'd like to try that since most otc's are safe as long as they are used in moderation.

As far as calming teas, here is a link to a site that my friend swears by. I have never tried it personally but it is supposed to work great:

Have you tried drinking a warm cup of milk before you to to bed? It calms your body down and helps you sleep, thats why they give it to babys. And its healthy definately non-addictive also.

When I have a hard time sleeping I usually drink Chamomile tea. It really relaxes you and tastes good too.

Benadryl is a great one, just make sure you take it early enough in the night so that you're not groggy in the morning.  As far as teas, I like Lipton tea with milk.  I have it in the mornings instead of coffee for caffeine and then at night, I go to sleep easier because the caffeine is already processed.  I'm not sure if I could sleep better if I had tea right before bed.

If you drink tea to put you to sleep everyday wouldn''t that make you addicted also? You start not being able to sleep without it.
