I was an alcoholic for about 3 years. me and my husband divorced and the only thing i could turn to since I was in a city where i knew no one was alcohol. I drank all my problems away and even when I got over the divorce I still had a date with the bottle every night. I moved back home and my friends noticed I was different and about a month later them and my family intervented. I didn't want to quit and just got away from all of them as much as i could but after a while i realised i needed them in my life. I attended AA meetings and moved back in with my parents for a while untill i sobered up. the withdrawals were killer but I have not had a sip of alcohol since may 30th of 2004 :)

Congratulations on being drink-free for 3 years, it's hard to get over alcohol but once you do, it really changes your life.
Just remember not to take up drinking again, it's very easy to pick it up even when you've been sober for 3 years. Believe me, my dad was a drinker.

Gailie that's soo amazing, I have so much respect for people who can give up drinking. My dad also used to be an alcoholic, well he still is but one day he decided to get drunk and ever since then it's taken over every day of his life. But your story is so helpful to those struggling. When I used to drink, I couldn't imagine never having a drink again, or even smoking pot it's like you need it to be complete. But now that I've been sober for three months, every day I'm learning what it's like to be self-reliant and happy without all that stuff.

gailie you rock!!! well i must congratulate you on cutting down your booze. well i have been working for an alcohol and drug rehab. i have seen people getting fully cured. in your case you got into it because of the emotional disturbance your spouse had caused. well, as far as knowing somebody in a new city is concerned, i dont think thats an hard thing to do. take up a job, or join some social gorups. that way you will keep yourself busy. whatever little i know, the day you start to learn to keep yourself busy, all your problems will cease out. cheers for life!
