A friend of mine has been in alot of pain lately and has been taking vicoden. She is afraid of taking the vicoden because she is afraid of getting addicted to it since she has addiction problems in the past.

Vicoden is quite easy to wind up addicted to. She might be better off getting a different prescription drug that isn't as habit forming.
If she drinks alcohol, then she must get off one or the other, as alcohol mixed with hydrocodone can have some nasty effects on the liver.

Vicodin is a very easy drug to get hooked on. I have many friends and acquaintances that have used this, as well got a addicted to. For one, many doctors will prescribe this for moderate to severe pain, so access is fairly easy. Its one to watch out for.

Then shouldn't her doctor prescribe her something different like Ibuprofen? I think those are a lot less addictive. And also it'd be a good idea to let her doctor know about her past so that he can monitor the dosages.

Ibuprofen works quite well for me, and it doesn't need a perscription. Doesn't have vicodens nasty side-effects either, that thing is a waste of time, and money.

I really think she should tell her doctor about her former addiction problems and her doctor should find another solution than a drug that could end up to a lot of hard times for her.

I think her doctor shouldve also asked her about former addiction problems. If she needs to take it and she has no other choices then I think she should have someone monitoring her and giving her the pills instad of her taking them on her own.
