I think this area fits this topic, several kids are addicted to video games nowadays, there are plenty of them. I can only remember playing atari and almost nobody had it, 'the times, they are changing..."(bob dylan)

I say parents are partially to blame for this as well as television addictions in kids. They allow them to play as long as they like, because then they know where their children are and kind of have the TV babysit the kids.

This is why my kid doesnt really get to watch television all that much. They will sit there like zombies and it kills their attention span. Video games are on a whole new level. There are so many to choose from in every genre, and VERY addictive to all ages really.

Nowadays, everywhere you look there is an advertisement for video games. If it not a handheld or a console, then it is games for the pc. I think it makes kids lazy. I mean I am bashing video games, but I think they have become overkill. Not to mention that the prices seem to get higher and higher too.

Killing your attention span? Please, try playing Xenosaga and see how long it takes you to wander, with a storyline like that, I doubt you'll stop playing.

Video games are definitely on a whole new level and I think they now beat television for kids, I know hundreds of kids that are addicted to video games and playing on their consoles, as we advance in technology so does the addictions available for our children. Its like all things, the prices will increase but it wont deter the parents from buying them or the kids from playing them.

My little sister is TOTALLY addicted to video games. Espeically on her nintendo DS.. But I think these games actually make kids angrier. Everytime my sister loses she starts throwing things around and screaming and pounding. She gets so mad about it. And if someones sitting next to her, shell hit them saying it's their fault she lost.

Wow that's pretty bad.  Your sis sounds like she has anger issues more than anything.  I think you should set limits for her though, so she doesn't think it's okay to get away with that behavior.  I wish my parents curbed my video gaming at some points, I slacked off in school a lot because I just didn't care.  Now I'm over it, I'm healthier but man I could've went down a bad road if I didn't make the decision to stop using.

I had this problem with computer games. I'd put off all my school work and even my friends to play video games, or chat rooms. That was like the best for me! I'd stay up till 4 AM playing games and chatting. Wow that was so long ago I'm so glad I'm over that now.

My parents used to try to keep me away from the computer. I was allowed one hour a day and that was it. Id fall asleep at 9 and set up an alarm clock for 1 and go play while my parents were asleep. I did this for about a year until my dad finally caught me as he was going to get a drink of water. Parents aren't to blame, its the kids. But I do believe if parents can show kids that there is a way that they could be much more entertained than these video games that could help a lot.
