Female fans know Mario as a young, handsome, platinum selling crooner. But few fans know about his lifelong struggle with his mother’s drug addiction. MTV made a recent documentary about Mario’s intervention with his mother called, “I won’t love you to death: The Story of Mario and his mom.”
Mtv’s cameras captured Mario’s personal battle with his mother’s addiction through his point-of-view. Coming close to death with multiple drug overdoses, Shawn, Mario’s mother was incapable of raising Mario for most of his young life. At the age of 20, Mario found himself acting as a parent to his mother, providing a house for her and paying for all of her expenses.
Constantly questioning where the money is going, the singer is at a crossroads in his life, determining whether he’s actually doing the right thing for his mom, or just supporting her behavior. With the help of an interventionist, a close family friend, and Shawn’s boyfriend, Mario will confront his mother and her drug addiction and offer her the gift of rehab.
