Do you think teen drinking will ever end?

Do you think teen drinking will ever end?

It has been around for as long as anyone can remember and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Even responsible drinking doesn't seem to be picking up. Everyday we hear about more and more kids killed or hurt badly in alcohol related accidents. What else can we do to get through to them ?

Unfortunately I cant see it ever slowing down and I think teen drinking is getting worse, many learn from others experience or what they have been through but for some it doesnt make a difference so I am not too optimistic about the future and teen drinking.

Yeah unfortunately I have to agree with you, and it is pretty sad. Teens , most anyways, do not know how to handle alcohol properly.

Teens drink for the novelty of it most of the time, if we didn't have such an uptight attitude towards it, then we wouldn't have such a problem. Suppression is what gives taboo things power.

Besides, in France, a lot of kids drink alcohol, cause that's how France is, but they don't have a skyrocketing teenage alcoholics rate like the US.

I drink on occasion, but I've never been drunk in my life, I quit once I've had enough.

Yeah you're right, here in America kids drink and drink just to get drunk. They will even drink and drive like it's nothing. It's a social thing more than anything, if you don't party then you're not that cool and if you don't drink at parties then you're definately not cool.

Yeah thats the same for the UK, kids drink because they think its fun and want to be part of the 'in' crowd. In Tunisia it is forbidden to drink as against the religion, but then you get the ones that are rebellious and because they cant have it, they want it. I cant see it changing.

It will never end, as long as we have alcohol, we'll have drunk teenagers. In this day and age, nothing will stop people being, I hate this word, exposed to things we don't want them exposed to.

As I may have said in another thread, teens have a different physiology from either children or adults.  Their brains are more developed than kids, but they won't have full development till after the early 20s, so they aren't physiologically mature, either.  That's why in most cases, teens can't really make sound decisions or listen to reason in most cases.

You can lecture or quote statistics all day to a teenager, and in a few cases, you may get through.  But until they see for themselves that the aura of "it can't happen to me" is simply an illusion, getting through to a teen who likes to party a bit too much is nigh impossible.

Pretty much why it always fails. Only way to stop them from drinking is to keep them on a chain, but that's just gonna do more harm than anything else. Better to teach them about responsible drinking than complete abstinence from drinking. Cause once they hit 21, they'll party.

So what's the best way to teach your kids about drinking?  My mom always told me that drinking isn't cool and she's only been drunk one time and she got really sick.  I also have an alcoholic father that was always drunk from the minute he got home.  But this still didn't stop me from drinking.

Everyone is unique, there's a different way to talk to everyone.  I think the best way for me was to just be sraight forward.  I figured out for myself, that it's fun to drink at parties, but there's a consequence to every action and if I kept drinking, my grades would slip, I wouldn't perform as well in life and why would I want to shorten my chances in life?

I think everyone is going to experience drinking and no one can tell a teenager that its bad for you dont do it because all their peers are telling them otherwise. It's not going to stop so the best thing to do is have them be aware of the consequences. I think every teenager needs a big blow to get them to stop drinking and without it theres no chance.

Nope I dont think this will ever ever ever end. Teens will always drink no matter how many laws or boundaries are set against them. Theres always a way and to them alcohol is the way to have fun.

This is a verrry easy answer. I dont think teen drinking will ever ever end. I also dont think teen drug use will. Especially not now, with marijuana this is like the modern hippie age.
