Addiction Vs Personal Preference

I have noticed a few posts where people have been curious if people enjoying a certain item a lot, if it’s an addiction. What is an addiction and what is just a person’s personal preference?

Addiction is when someone will keep doing something regardless of the damage that they are doing to themselves, because they are, well, addicted. I think when someone has a personal preference it is just because they happen to like something a lot, but the doesn't mean that they are hooked. I guess it can be a fine line at times, but I have seem some people called others "addicted" jokingly, even though they weren't, they just enjoyed doing what they were doing.

Yea I agree and especially when someone says I can stop whenever I want, I just don't want to. That's a really bad sign that they are addiction or they will be really soon.

There is a difference in addiction and personal preference. I have noticed some posts where someone is asking about an addiction when it is so clearly just a preference. Like one I read was talking about ketchup.

I've been reading those posts too and wonder where some people get some of their whacky ideas, but also I am a big believer that no question is a stupid question, and I have seen people addicted to things that most would have never imagined.

If its just a personal preference the individual would be able to abandon it, yet if it is an addiction there are ususally symptoms of withdrawal and need for the substance.

I think as long as there are no signs of withdrawals it is not an addiction. I agree Mariana44
