Do you have any sympathy for addicted celebrities ?

After reading megan22's thread about celebrity rehab, I got to thinking about celebrities in general who go through addiction. I feel sympathy for anyone going through the struggle of rehab and getting cleanig, but celebrities are just people too. I don't feel anything more for them just because they are celebrities and I don't think they should be pampered or put on a pedestal just because they happen to be a famous addict.

I feel worse for them because especially when your an addict the last thing you want is the whole world finding out about your every move. Sometimes you just want to be alone, and Celibrities cant have that. They always have the paparazzi following them and driving them crazy. They get no privacy!

Yeah I do have sympathy for some of them, there are a lot of celebrities that are struggling with their addictions and genuinely trying to get help. They have the papparazi swarming around after them, following their every move and like you say they are people too.

The problem I have is that a good majority of them think that they should be treated "extra special" because they are celebrities. Night clubs cater to them and let them in the doors to do as many drugs as they like behind closed doors. This is the worst thing someone could do for an addict, but celebrities expect this treatment and businesses more than oblige.

Depends, if it's someone who's famous for being famous, like Paris Hilton, then they get about as much sympathy from me as some random woman with a broken nail.

But someone that earned it, like Heath Ledger or a famous singer, then yes, they get some.

Point taken, but by that token then all of us, even those who say "I'm not into the whole celebrities thing," help create the whole idol-worship thing in the first place.  If everyone went and protested in front of the clubs that cater to the celebs' every whim, or if we boycotted movies, TV shows, and all sort of entertainment until the big industries lost money and wised up, maybe then everyone would clean up their act.
