Can someone get addicted to PC games?

Hi.

I used to be a big-time computer game fan and I still like playing a few games, but at my age and with adult responsibilities, I hardly ever play any unless I have spare time.....

Because PC games aren't necessarily Internet-related, I will ask my question here: Can there be game players that love a game so much that they will neglect chores, jobs, family, and friends to play it? What type of games are usually prone for addiction? Does anyone here know a PC game addict?

I don't see why not. Millions of people are addicted to video games, and pc games are no different really. As to which games would be the most addictive, I am not too sure. That's a good question though and I would love to know the answer to that.

Yes they can. Have you heard the recent news about that World of War game? It caused a divorce. PC games can cause an ugly addiction, and probably pretty awful for your eyes as well.

If you do a little research, World of Warcraft has caused thousands of divorces.  People just give up on life, they stop caring about their wives, their kids, their jobs, their bills... everything!  I was reading a blog about people who'd left comments about their experiences with WOW and one lady was forced to mow the lawn at 9 months pregnant because her husband refused to do anything but play WOW all day long. It's so bad right?  I'll try to find the article...

Ok, please remind me to never bring WOW into my household. Seriously, that is some pretty messed up stuff going on when people let a game take over their life. I'm sure there are underlying personal issues, but no thanks, I don't want to take a chance ever on that friggin game.

I have a friend who used to be addicted to diablo. He would neglect sleep jsut to play it. He would be up literally day and night just playing it and sometimes even called in sick to work. Computer games can be very addicting, infact the computer its self is highly addictive also. Think of it this way. Would you be able to live 2 weeks without out your computer or any way of getting on the internet? Very few people would answer yes to this question and actually be able to fullfill it.

It completely changes your personality also.  My boyfriend's brother is this way.  All he cares about is his Halo website, his computer, and his 42' widescreen... it's so ridiculous.  He's never had a girlfriend and doesn't really care about ever getting one.  He's twentyone and still acts like he's 12 because he refuses to give these things up!
