Underlying issues that cause these addictions

There are generally underlying issues going on in peoples lives that cause them to become addicted to the internet. This can be lack of interest in knowing how you are in your house, where your friends online might acknowledge you as soon as you sign in. Or other various reasons.

Seems to me that internet addiction can affect just about anyone at anytime. I would like to know however, what the underlying issues may be that make some people more predisposed to it.

I remember all too well the changes in mood that I experienced when I had dial-up ISPs and had to limit my time online so I wouldn't tie up the phone all day.  I'd be nervous, irritable, and quick to snap or lash out, and I'd also be looking at the clock or waiting for everyone to be asleep so I could log on and chat or read e-mails.

Wow I remember the whole dial up era.  That was horrible for me, we have phone jacks in the most retarded places and I'd keep everyone up at night chatting too lol.  I'm online for personal use probably about 2.5 hours a week.. roughly.  I used to find so much pleasure in it but I think that was just a phase.  I liked it because I could chat with people that I wouldn't normally talk to on the phone or at school because of distractions and hanging out with other people or wtv... but eh I don't really care anymore I'm so busy.

I dont think there has to be some underlying issue that causes you to go on the internet too much. I really dont believe that at all! I used to go on the internet waaaay too much but it was just a phase I went through and I did it because I enjoyed it. There doesn't have to be something wrong with you for you to have an internet addiction, you could just enjoy it and feel like its more fun than other things and thats why your on it so much. thats how I was.
