A new type of addiction is coming up and it is internet addiction.Internet is a place where you can find the information about anything. How is this addiction affecting us??

For most people I think that there is little different between their internet use and their TV use. It is just another form of entertainment for them-they are not active participants.

The sad thing is that this information was always available, in the form of books, but no one took an interest till it came online.

The information you can obtain on the interent is not always necessarily accurate either. I wouldnt trust an internet search aslone for research purposes. I think addiction is formed because of more quirky websites, like you tube, or by online shopping, rather than people researching.

Indeed and some of the most popular sites, such as wiki, can be the worst. How many people realise that each and every page is written by the people who are looking for information? That it can all be edited as and when you wish?

I agree that most internet addictions aren't caused by people researching topics, but by entertainment sites, chat rooms, game sites, etc. Most people don't spend time they don't have doing research, but they will spend hours watching pointless videos on youtube.

Well if you want to work on project and you are not expert in that project than I think you should have to visit such a websites for research on your topic. I mostly know about webmaster from those informative websites.

To let you know, internet addictions are not the point it is the addiction of what you do online. They are not knew, in the mid 90's there was such as increase of people addicted to internet chat rooms. Thus making this over 10 years old. Not new ! The sad thing is that those same people are the people that continue to use the internet today and not only themselves but their family also spend more time online.
