Kids are increasingly taking to the internet gaming world. Many of them choose online gaming over physical exersion or sports. While they can learn a lot from online games ,it does stress their eyes and can cause other ailments. Is online gaming a blessing or a blight ?

If they munch while they are online playing, then you have two problems. A kid addicted to the internet, who is getting fat!

Its ok to play games online as long as you are getting some kind of a work out that is very important and not just only sit all day . You need to find a balance , very important

I completely agree... balance is the key. Many online games have an educational component, and aren't bad for kids, per se. However, if anyone spends all of their time doing one thing to the exclusion of others, it's not healthy.

It is no different then game consoles. If you do not limit the time they play then you can expect them to want to play all the time. It works the same way with most everything else as well.

I actually think that playing on games on the computer is bader because your staring right in front of the screen but when your playing on a console you have a controller where you can sit at you sofa and your TV is roughly about 1.5 meters away from you.

Most of the time a child would get addicted to a game so its the parents right to make sure that they are getting a balance maybe about 1 hour 30 minutes a day wouldn't be bad if it's for a game but it's the parents right to make sure there not on it most of the time.

A child should definitely be limited as to how long they sit in front of a screen as it is proven to have a negative effect on their development, be it watching television, playing games or surfing the internet. A government study in the UK recommends you don’t let your child spend a second in front of a screen before they reach 3 years of age!

I don't have any kids, but my sister has 4 plus a home day care and she limits each kid to only 1 hour of playing on the computer a day (It might be 30 minutes I don't remember for sure) and once they reach their time limit they have to go play outside. So she balances them out, if they give her a hard time about the time limit then they are grounded from the computer and don't go on the next day at all.

Not all computer games are educational. My girlfriend is pretty much hooked on a game called World of Warcraft where she goes around killing creatures and other people she would play this game 24/7 if she could, so watch what your kids are playing online. Sometimes I feel like my girlfriend is more my child haha.

I think that's a good routine to discipline the kids.Totally depriving them of online gaming might actually have the opposite result than the desired one. It's also true that many games are neither educational nor analytical. In fact, some are so completely violence personified that I fear they might bring out the brute forces in the kids. Not all games are good for their psyche.

i don't think kid's have anythnig to learn from games, no matter if they are online , consoles or gameboys type of games , they are just a way of entertainment and nothing more, It is importand that their playing time is limited this is what is really important.

I agree with part of your post , but I will have to disagree with the other half. While I share the sentiment that the gaming time should be limited for kids ,I think it's not a complete waste and they do learn from the games they play. I have seen my nephew learn how to plan and form strategies while playing those games and that's reflected in his analytical and judgemental qualities. Gaming probably doesn't directly assist academics in any way , but it sure does help make the kids street smart.I am yet to meet a kid who takes interest in gaming and is also dumb.

you're right, but the difference is that at the computer you usually play alone and for a longer time, I'm not a big fan of internet gaming, it puts you into an unreal world...

I think it's a good thing, World of Warcraft was a huge hit, and it makes millions upon millions of dollars from the monthly fees.

It's easy to get hooked though, mainly because you actually have a challenge in online gaming. And there is real teamwork involved in some FPS games, not crummy AI.
