Best way to limit your internet time ?

What's the best way to reduce the time you spend on internet ? I have tried doing it several times ,but everytime I had to tell myself 'just this time' and then I'd go to bed.Is there a way that has worked for you ? Please share.

You could try putting on parentla controls, and setting a time limit.

Go on the net at the cafe and don't keep it at home that way you only go to the net when you have to and not the full day .

Putting a lock on the thing, maybe a sledge hammer, and being the adult and saying that you did this. So what do you do at that point in time, when you cannot do this.

Haha ,I wish I could lock up the computer and forget it.I can still assign it a password that I am more likely to forget ,but when I would desperately like to login again ,I'd be cursing myself for having locked it up like that.I rally don't have a good way to stay away from it unless I am under a lot of pressure to finish my other chores.

Do you honestly think that removing it from your home and connecting at an internet cafe will prevent you from spending hours at time online. The only thing I can really see it doing is taking more money out of your pocket.

I went to the library once and it closes at 5PM so the computer shuts down automatically at 5PM it has a time limit on the bottom right, so i was thinking you could use this program on your PC to stop going on your computer for to long, you could maybe set the time limit to about two hours daily, i don't know what program it is although the next time i go to the library I'll find out for you or you could just go to a computer forum and ask for a program like this, good luck on fighting your addiction.

Try setting up a schedual for your self. Like
 8:00-5:00 Work
5:00-6:00   Cook dinner
6:00-8:00   Internet
8:00-9:00   Clean up
9:00-11:00   Relax, read a book watch TV, talk on the phone, have friends over play cards things like that.

change it to what you like, but just make it work to where you have a busy schedual..

Ah I can relate to this it got to a stupid point and I was sitting on the internet till 4.00 am! it can really get to a crazy point, as I work online too I spend more time online than any where else but I agree set a schedule this is exactly what I have done, it includes me working hours, I have set a time for dinner/lunch etc and then I time I have to log off - its been tough going and there were times when I thought 'well a bit longer wont hurt' but I am slowly getting into the routine of it - and feel much better for it!

I have a hard time limiting my usage as well. I find myself using the internet and getting so sidetrack when I should be doing other things. I will surf the web, shop or be on social networking sites and put off my homework and then end up staying up the whole night because I was doing other things than my homework. So now I'm always sleep deprived, but I'm not sure that it's an addiction or just that I procrastinate and would rather be on the internet than do homework or things that need to get done.

I only allow myself an hour and a half or so right before dinner. I think thats more than enough. If I have work though thats a different story.

I wish I could limit how much time I spend on the internet. It's the last thing I do at night and the first thing I get on in the morning plus all the time in between. I think with sites like MySpace it makes me feel kind of like a stalker. I can look up people and see who they talk to and what their plans are..isn't that weird. Please someone say they do this too so I'm not alone!!!

Hahaha I think everyone does that to some extent.  I usually do that
when talking to some guys, like which girls they're talking to and
such.  You can tell a lot about a person by looking how people talk to
them in comments.

I do this with picture comments and I get jealous. If a girl im talking to is getting a bunch of picture comments by so many guys I start getting mad

My son’s limit per day is 1 hour of total screen time. To control his Internet access at inappropriate times, I use Internet filtering software Ez Internet Timer: http://www.internettimer.net.
It works perfectly. It can block Internet browsers, e-mails, file downloads using Ftp, messengers and keep them blocked for as you wish. It's the best way to limit kids' internet time I know under Vista 64-bit.

I have been struggling with internet porn use and excessive web use generally. I have tried a number of approaches. One of them is a filter at www.wisechoice.net. This does not have a button to over ride it. You can use it for time limits. It seems very effective
