My sister shared my first tase of a cig with me when I was 5. She was 13. I got sick and snitched.

When I was 8, my parents divorced and my sister watched over me all the time. She smoked with her friends and I stared smoking to be cool and accepted by the older kids. It was dumb in retrospect, but I WAS only 8 and in desperate need of acceptance.

I smoked a few a day until I was 14 then I smoked a pack a day (or more) until I was 32.

I am so glad that I quit. Now I just need to lose the weight I put on. LOL

Yeah the weight is so easy to pile on and its a bugger to try and shift, I put on just over 14lbs but I think its better than smoking and eventually I will lose it

I was 15 and curious, it really is true, curiosity killed the cat, the only difference is that humans don't have 9 lives to spare. I don't have cancer, but I very well could have.

I started smoking when I was about 12. Initially any way. I wasn't smoking every day until I was 15, when I got into the service it got a lot worse.

I lit my first smoke when I was 11, and have smoked everyday since (more than 20 years) - I'm hoping I will wake up one day & just not want to smoke anymore, but there is no sign of that day coming any time soon

I was 10 when I first tried smoking at started to regular smoke at 13. I was able to finally quick when I was 30 yrs old which is a good thing I didn't continue to put it off until I was older. I must admit it was only the first 2 weeks that were hard and then after that I didn't even miss it. Dealing with alcohol was harder for me. I just hope quiting smoking is all in your plans for those that still smoke.

I was about 13-14 when I first started smoking. I look back now and think how horrible it was and how stupid I must have been to have started doing it in the first place.

Vx.

I think for many it starts with trying out something new because someone they know do it and it's easy to get influenced by close friends. So,perhaps a guidance at an early age about the pros and cons of smoking can go a long way in getting into the smoking habit.

I think you are quite right in that. But what if the parents themselves are addicted to it. Its well known that smoking in very injurious in fact I would say fatal during pregnancy but I know many people ignored it and now are in deep trouble.
