I want to stop

Smoking is one of my main vices and I'm really keen to quit, I have read all the leaflets available from my doctor and I'm wondering if I should see a cessation specialist? Do you think it would help me at all?

Well its up to you to stop smoking, what you need to do to stop smoking is try to stop yourself from buying another pack of cigarettes, then slowly slowly try to get out of the habit of smoking, i mean like if you have a pack of cigarettes at the moment just try to finish them and try to get out of the habit of taking/buying them, just say to yourself im going to stop, i wish you the best of luck stopping bro.

James if you do not have the will to stop smoking off your own back it is always good to get support from the smoking cessation specialist. Nicotine replacement therapy is great if you have never tried it before. But you must be in the right frame of mind or it just wiill not work. The hole idea is to plan your days with coping strategies and change your routine which helps change your habits. Only 20%of smoking is nicotine addiction the rest of 80% is habit. So good luck lovely.

James,

As you won't hear it in the media, I'll let you know that the new methods of trying to wean yourself off nicotine have an extremely high failure rate. Those products are just other methods of addiction delivery. None of them solve the problem. In fact, most of the people who use nicotine gum or the patch end up doubling their nicotine intake because the will smoke at the same time as using the patch or gum.

Let's step back and think about what it is that you really want. Do you want to just quit smoking or do you want to rid yourself of the nicotine addiction? If you are looking to rid yourself of the addiction, then do it the way that will bring about the most success. COLD TURKEY!!!

Honestly it sucks for the first 3 days, but once you have passed the physical addiction, you'll have it beat.

JUST DON'T EVER CAVE AND SMOKE ANOTHER CIGARETTE!!!

One puff will get you again. I quit 3 times and each time I would make excuses to smoke a cig. Mainly I would blame stress. "Life is too hard." WAAAHH!!! Finally I beat the addiction and I will never ever go back to it.

I still miss cigs after not smoking for 2 years now. It is easy to stay away because I remeber how I was their slave. It is crazy to think that you can be enslaved to something like cigs, but you can.

James, please, do whatever it takes, but don't think that it will be easy. Don't look for a painless method. (There isn't one) Just take a stand with your own will power and shout to the heavens "ENOUGH!" Throw away your ciggs. Emty all the ashtrys and take them to the dumpster. Clean the house to remove the smell of old stale smoke. Bust out the corn chips and chewing gum and buckle in for 3 days of hell. I promise you, it will be worth it when you can actually breath again. 3 Days. The phyiscal addiction last for 3 days only. You can sufer the 3 days.

Be a man!! You can do it!! Don't puss out!!

GOOD LUCK!!

James, I feel for you and I agree with you about the 3 days, it's not true. There are smokers that quit cold turkey and after 10-15 years still crave a smoke. I've been spreading the word about Chantix, ask your Doctor for it. It's the only non-smoking aid that decreases the nicotine receptors in the brain and doesn't have nicotine in it.
