Smoking Addiction
We all know how harmful and addictive smoking is, but very few realize how risky it is. Smokers
form an uncontrollable dependence to cigarettes. Those who stop (or try to) struggle with severe
emotional, mental or physical reactions.
Why is it addictive? NICOTINE!! It is the drug found in tabacco that causes the addiction. It is
considered as highly addictive as herion and cocaine. Those who do eventually quit have typically
tried to stop 2-3 times before they finally succeed. But here's an interesting fact, only 2.5% of
smokers successfully quit each year.
Smoking is the only addiction that is harmful to those who don't partake in it. Secondhand smoke
is responsible for approximately 3,000 lung cancer deaths in nonsmokers each year.
Here's a bit of hope though, the benefits of quitting can begin to occur within 20 minutes of the
last cigarette you smoked.
