Sex Addiction
Sexual addicts rely more on sex for comfort from pain, for nurturing or relief from stress.
They don't enjoy sex and a source of physical pleasure. For sex addicts the sex is shameful.
Not neccesarily during the act, but afterwards. As with other addictions, the addict starts
living a "double life", fully functioning in his daily life, but secretly particpates
in acts that would be shameful and shocking to those who know, love and respect him. It is usually
a preoccupation with sexual arousal and release and often has little or nothing to do with who
the person is and needs no relationship.
Here are some typical forms of sexual addiction:
- compulsive masturbation
- compulsive sex with prostitutes (male or female)
- anonymous sex with multiple partners
- multiple affairs outside a committed relationship, or serial relationships (one after the other)
- habitual exhibitionism
- habitual voyeurism
- inappropriate sexual touching
- repeated sexual abuse of children
- episodes of rape
Since the invention of the Internet, it has become quickest growing form from which sex addicts can feed
their addiction. Sexual addiction has a characteristic that it is progressive, which means that with the
help of the Internet their addiction progresses rapidly. Addicts tend to now (with the help of the Internet)
take bigger risks, move quicker into more extreme behaviors, and increase their chance of getting caught.
