Uncontrollable Addiction to Sex

Dr. Doug Weiss - 12/14/2007

I believe I am addicted to sex. I think about all the time. I have had numerous partners. So many, I forget many of their names. I want to control these urges. I have lost many friends and my family has turned against me because of it. I have been secret about this problem, but I would rather find a solution. I can't seem to be happy with just one partner. What is wrong with me and how do I control my sexual desires?

It sounds like you are admitting that you're powerless and that your life is unmanageable. You will not get better by yourself and it will be a while in sobriety for you to be sexually healthy with one person. So get into a 12-Step support group and read everything you can about sex addiction. The 101 Practical Exercises can help on the basics to recovery. If you can get sober, get The 6 Types of Sex Addicts because it is possible you have several things going on that are keeping you from not being sober. You might also do some quick research on a couple of disorders to see if they are at the root of the addiction like depression, borderline personality disorder or cyclethymia.
