Sex Drive Difference Causing Marital Friction

Dr. Doug Weiss - 12/14/2007

I am a 44 year old female. I used to be very shy, however over the past few years I have had an extremely heightened sex drive. I have one, monogamous partner which I care very much for. His sex drive is not as powerful as mine. This causes arguments and strain on our relationship. What do you suggest?

This difference in sexual drives is a common issue. In the book Intimacy: A 100 Day Guide to Lasting Relationships I recommend married couples get in agreement on sexual frequency. So if one person wants to be physically intimate 4 times a week and the other wants this 2 times a week, they can negotiate at 3 times or rotate weeks and whose ever week it is, sex will be 4 or 2 times that for that particular week.
